Environmental “doomers” always highlight the destruction of the ecosphere because they fear current trends and because they think depicting horrible scenarios will force the adoption of strict regulations by politicians. Many environmental “doomers” do not wish to hear about technological advances because they fear that the discussion of technological solutions will undermine the push to regulation. They also suspect that technological solutions are illusory.

We do need regulation, but constantly proclaiming environmental “doom” leads to despair and inaction. It does not inspire change. Pessimism also greatly underestimates human ingenuity and goodwill.

Paul, you deserve praise for highlighting the numerous positive advances being made to help meet the environmental challenges.
